John Lennon, after the Beatles broke up, wanted to try to get the US out of the Vietnam war; He held a "bed in" with himself and Yoko both staying in bed for several days. He was unsuccessful that time, but in 1974 he managed to get thousands of people on the White House lawn singing "Give Peace a Chance". His  efforts helped change public opinions about the Vietnam War.  Later that year the, US got out of the Vietnam war, and Nixon resigned.

John, after that, retired for five years to focus on being a husband and father, and give the love to his son Shawn that was denied to his first son, Julian. Some people saw Yoko as "this horrid witch who was holding him captive", but he was actually much happier. And then  after five years of silence, in 1980 he went back into the public eye, and made a comeback; which might have gotten the Beatles back together. but alas that was not to be. John was shot and killed by a deranged fan on October 9, 1980, at the age of 40.
